Mr Arvind Agarwal, the founder of AICL, won the "Promising Business Communicator" award organized by the Association of Business Communicators of India (ABCI). Arvind has worked for over 7 years in the field of investor communications and is presently one of India's foremost practitioners of stakeholder-centric communication and having worked with over a hundred client companies to help them communicate their business objectives.

He is a Graduate in Commerce, a Chartered Accountant and a Company Secretary. He worked first as a journalist with one of India's oldest English Dailies, and then as a CFO with a steel fabrication company before venturing into this field. Communicator of the Decade Award

Rajendra Darda | Editor-in-Charge, Lokmat & Hon'ble Industry Minister, Maharashtra

Rajendra Darda, Hon`ble Industries Minister, Govt. of Maharashtra was awarded the Excellence in Business Communication for Non-Business Communication Professionals organized by the Association of Business Communicators of India (ABCI).

After graduating from Nagpur University, Rajendra Darda received his diploma from the Government Institute of Printing Technology, Mumbai. He also attended a two-year advanced course in Graphic Arts from the London College of Printing. Darda is Vice Chairman and Joint Managing Director of the Lokmat newspaper group.

Excellence in Marketing & Brand Communications Award
Union Bank of India

The Award for the Excellence in Marketing & Brand Communications was awarded to the Union Bank of India for their outstanding campaign in repositioning their Brand Image.

Union Bank of India was established on 11th November 1919 with its headquarters in the city of Bombay now known as Mumbai. The Head Office building of the Bank in Mumbai was inaugurated by Mahatma Gandhi, the Father of the nation in the year 1921, and he said on the occasion: "We should have the ability to carry on a big bank, to manage efficiently crores of rupees in the course of our national activities. Though we have not many banks amongst us, it does not follow that we are not capable of efficiently managing crores and tens of crores of rupees." His prescient words anticipated the growth of the bank that has taken place in the decades that followed. The Bank now operates through over 2800 branches across the country. The Bank's core values of prudent management without ignoring opportunities is reflected in the fact that the Bank has shown uninterrupted profit during all 90 years of its operations. The Bank has a large clientele base of over 24 million. On the technology front the Bank has taken early initiatives and 100% of its branches are computerised. The Bank has also introduced Core Banking Solution with connectivity between branches. 100% of the business of the Bank is under Core Banking Solution making it a leader among its peers in infusion of technology. Many innovative products are developed using the technology platform to offer an array of choices to customers, adding speed and convenience to transactions. Technology will also enable the Bank to derive substantial cost reduction while creating the requisite capacity to handle the ever increasing volume of business in a competitive environment that offers immense opportunities. The Bank achieved total business level of Rs.3,42,856 crore (Rupees Three Lakh Forty two thousand Eight hundred fifty six crore) Mr. S. C. Kalia, Executive Director, Union Bank of India accepted the Award on behalf of the Bank.

Life Time Achievement Award
M.V. Kamath | Editor Illustrated Weekly & Veteran Journalist

Madhav Vittal Kamath or more fondly known as M V Kamath is one of India's best known journalists and writers. A famous journalist by profession, M V Kamath was the former chairman of Prasar Bharati. He has authored nearly 40 books on different topics. In fact, he was awarded the honorary Padma Bhushan award in 2004.

He is currently the chairman of India's public service broadcaster, Prasar Bharati Corporation, which runs famous channels like Doordarshan and All India Radio. He is also on the board of Manipal Institute of Communication, the media school in Manipal.

Life Time Achievement Award
R.K. Laxman | Noted Cartoonist

Mr R. K. Laxman , the famous cartoonist received the "Lifetime Achievement award" organized by the Association of Business Communicators of India (ABCI). Laxman's earliest work was for newspapers and magazines such as Swarajya and Blitz. While still at the Maharaja College of Mysore, he began to illustrate his elder brother R K Narayan's stories in The Hindu, and he drew political cartoons for the local newspapers and for the Swatantra.

Among his other works, Laxman is known for his distinctive illustrations in several books, most notably for the Malgudi stories written by his elder brother R.K. Narayan, which was later made as a serial directed by Shankar Nag. He also created a popular mascot for the Asian Paints group called Gattu.

Mr. Roger Pereira, MD CEO - R&PM : Edelman was conferred the Life Time Achievement Award in Business Communications organized by the Association of Business Communicators of India (ABCI).

Pereira started his career in advertising. He has worked at JWT and then at Shilpi, where he was the CEO for 13 years. He initiated and helped found the Advertising Standards Council of India (ASCI) and the India chapter of the International Advertising Association (IAA). He was also on the international board of the IAA for several years. He ventured into PR in 1987.

Life Time Achievement Award
Mr. Ameen Sayani | Noted Radio Personality

Ameen Sayani received the "Lifetime Achievement award" organized by the Association of Business Communicators of India (ABCI). He belonged to a band of announcers of Radio Ceylon who enjoyed iconic status with millions of listeners. He was conferred the Padma Shri award in 2009. He helped popularize Radio Ceylon in India and the station ruled the airwaves in the 1950s and 1960s.

Ameen Sayani was also a part of various movies throughout the years like Bhoot Bungla, Teen Devian, Boxer, Qatl etc. He appeared in all of these movies in the role of an announcer in some event.

Ms. K. Bhavani, Director Communications, Government of Singapore, was awarded the Global Business Communicator award at the Association of Business Communicators of India (ABCI) awards function. Strategic Business Communicators Award
Mr. Ekanath Thakur | Hon'ble Member of Parliament (Upper House - Rajya Sabha)

Mr EKanath Thakur received the Strategic Business Communicator award organized by the Association of Business Communicators of India (ABCI). He completed BA in English Literature from Pune University with honours. In 1966, his extraordinary talents and academic brilliance was in full view. He stood first amongst 67,000 students spread across the country in an entrance examination for 'Class One Officers' in the State Bank of India. The little genius had blossomed and a doyen was in the making. He became President of the Federation of the State Bank officers in just two years.

His extraordinary professional acumen, phenomenal administrative proficiency, brilliant communication skills and inspirational leadership catapulted him to the top league.

Life Time Achievement Award
Dr. G. P. C. Nayar | Chairman SCMS Group Cochin

Dr. G. P. C. Nayar was honoured with coveted Life Time Achievement Award organized by the Association of Business Communicators of India (ABCI) held in 2008. ABCI had earlier honoured Dr. Nayar by conferring the prestigious award of 'Fellow of the Brain Trust of ABCI,' last year. The tribute was also in recognition of Dr Nayar's signal service in the field of professional education in India, by pioneering the cause of promoting excellence in professional education, establishing a group of world-class self-financing institutions of higher learning in technology, management, engineering, biotechnology etc.

His notable contribution in successfully leading a crusade, as the President of the managements of self-financing professional educational institutions in Kerala, against the move from the state government and the ruling political parties to crush the growth of self-financing educational institutions was also hailed by ABCI.

Narasimha Reddi, Director General Information & PR Gvernment of Andhra Pradesh, received the Life Time Achievement Award in Business Communications Year 2005 organized by the Association of Business Communicators of India (ABCI). Mr Reddi retired as Director, Department of I&PR, Government of Andhra Pradesh and has held a number of key positions such as, Press Secretary to Chief Ministers, Director (PR) - APSRTC, Director - IFPR, Director - SIRD, Director - Cultural Affairs, Director - Bharatiya Vidya Bhavan's College of Communication and Management, Hyderabad.

At present, he is the Editor of the journal, 'Public Relations Voice'. He has authored 14 books and edited three text books of Dr. B.R. Ambedkar Open University. His book 'How to be a Good PRO' (1974) is acclaimed as the first Indian book on Public Relations.

Anand Sankeshwar, the Managing Director of Vijayanand Printers Limited, the publishers of Vijay Karnataka, Vijay Times and Usha Kiran dailies, has bagged the 'Outstanding Contribution to Business Journalism' award 2005, given by the Association of Business Communicators of India (ABCI).

The award citation fetched praises on Mr Sankeshwar for his achievements in making Vijay Karnataka the numero uno newspaper in the State in just three years and Vijay Times the fastest growing English daily in the State, despite having no background in the field.

Mrs Zelma Lazarus | VP & Chief PR, Voltas Limited

Mrs Zelma Lazarus, the Chief Executive Officer of Impact India won the Life Time Achievement Award in Business Communications Year 2004 given by the Association of Business Communicators of India (ABCI).

As the General Manager Corporate Relations of Voltas Limited, a large Private Sector enterprise in India, Zelma Lazarus has had substantial experience in all aspects of public affairs. Her work experience is over 30 years. She was invited by the Government of India to become a member of the Planning Commissions Working Group on Health, Education and Communications for the preparation of the Seventh and Eighth Five-Year Plans for the country.

C.R.L. Narasimhan, the Business Editor of The Hindu won the `Excellence in Business Journalism Award for the year 2003-04' organised by the Association of Business Communicators of India (ABCI). Narasimhan has helped in understanding the nitty-gritty of the otherwise complex financial world.

A post-graduate in economics from Chennai University, C R L Narasimhan previously worked with the State Bank of India, in India and abroad for over two decades before he joined The Hindu as a Deputy Editor in December 1993.

Excellence in Financial Communications Award
Mr. Ramesh Narayan | MD, Canco Advertising

Ramesh Narayan, Managing Director, Canco Advertising Pvt Ltd, won the "Excellence in financial Communications Year 2003-04" organised by the Association of Business Communicators of India (ABCI). Known as the most dynamic person, he founded Canco Advertising Pvt Ltd and looks after the agency's creative and management functions.

Ramesh Narayan was the president of the Advertising Club, Mumbai, from 1997 to 1999. The club had a large membership representing advertising, marketing and the media. He was also the editor of its award-winning magazine, Solus, and convener of the Abby Awards' Judging Committee in 1997 and 1998.

Dr N G Kannan joined IOC in the year 1969 and handled several key assignments in the Marketing and HR Departments. He was serving as Executive Director (HR) prior to his elevation to the board as a director.

Communicator of the Decade Award
Mr. H. N. Sinor | CEO, Indian Banks' Association

Mr H. N. Sinor, Chief Executive, Indian Banks' Association won the 'Communicator of the Decade Year 2003-04' at the 44th Awards ceremony organised by the Association of Business Communicators of India (ABCI).

Mr Sinor has an illustrious banking career spanning 43 years having worked in both public sector and private sector banks and served on various banking committees. He started his career in 1965 with Central Bank of India and in 1969 moved to Union Bank of India where he worked for 28 years. During his career in Union Bank of India, he worked in various capacities to reach the position of General Manager. In 1996, he was appointed as Executive Director of Central Bank of India.

After serving for 7 months in Central Bank of India, he joined ICICI Bank in July 1997 as the Executive Director. On June 1, 1998, he took over as Managing Director and CEO of ICICI Bank which went on to become the second largest bank in India. Retiring from ICICI Bank Limited in 2003, Mr Sinor joined Indian Banks' Association as Chief Executive on June 1, 2003 and held this position till July 31, 2008. He currently serves as the Chief Executive of the Association of Mutual Funds in India.

Life Time Achievement Award
Mr. K S Neelakandan | Director PR, Pfizer India Limited

Mr. K S Neelakandan, Director Public Affairs, Pfizer India Limited, received the Lifetime Achievement award organized by the Association of Business Communicators of India (ABCI). Known as one of the PR stalwarts in India, Mr. Neelakandan was born in Palghat District of Kerala and after completing matriculation, he came to Mumbai. He then started working in an advertising agency.

Later he switched over to Public Relations and became the National President of Public Relations Society of India. He is man instrumental in getting Foreign Direct Investment (FDI) by way of shaping-up a pharma major, Pfizer in India, when FDI was an unheard concept in India.

Communicator of the Decade Award
Dr. G.C. Banik | Chief General Manager (PR) VSNL

Dr. G.C. Banik won the 'Communicator of the decade' award for the year 2002- 2003 organised by the Association of Business Communicators of India (ABCI). After being in the profession of Information and Public Relations for over 34 years now, Dr G.C.Banik is presently the Chief General Manager of the Public Relations Department in Videsh Sanchar Nigam. Besides, this he is also the Chief Ethics Counsellor and Head, Corporate Social Responsibility in VSNL.

A recipient of the "Communicator of the Decade award" in the year 2002, Dr Banik has presented over 60 professional papers in Public Relations. Dr. Banik has received six National Awards and was also awarded the Best PR Persons Award for the Year 1992 by the Media India.

Life Time Achievement Award
Mr. Anand Akerkar | Executive Director World Trade Centre

Mr Anand Akerkar received the Lifetime Achievement award organized by the Association of Business Communicators of India (ABCI). He is known as the first generation of PR Professionals from India. He is a product of Doon School and is the first Indian to have acquired a post graduation in Journalism and PR from the University of California and Los Angeles, USA.

He is the person behind the World Trade Centre in Mumbai, India that gave the Government of Maharashtra revenue in millions of Indian rupees way back in the 1970s. He was advisor on PR matters to Mahindra & Mahindra, one of the biggest Business House in India. In 1989, he was the 2nd India who got elected as the Global President of the International Public Relation Associations after Late Sanat Lahiri who got elected in 1979.
